I was reading some animal poems to the boys tonight before bed and ran across these two poems I thought I would share. The first I have laughed at since childhood and the second is new and beautiful.
The Octopus
Tell me, O Octopus, I begs,
Is those things arms or is they legs?
I marvel at thee, Octopus;
If I were thou, I'd call me Us.
Ogden Nash
Seal Lullaby
Oh! hush thee, my baby, the night is behind us.
And black are the waters that sparkled so green.
The moon, o'er the combers, looks downward to find us
At rest in the hollows that rustle between.
Where billow meets billow, there soft by thy pillow;
Ah, weary wee flipperling, curl at thy ease!
The storm shall not wake thee, nor shark overtake thee.
Asleep in the arms of the slow-swinging seas.
Rudyard Kipling
I have always enjoyed Kipling. If you need a fun read check out The Jungle Book. It's much more than just a story about Mowgli. There are several other stories in the book like "The White Seal" and "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi," one of my favorites.

Thanks. I love the Seal Lullaby and I'm so glad to have all the words here! I remember (now) my mom singing a lullaby with those words but hadn't thought about it for years if not decades. Nice memory.
Rikki-Tikki-Tavi was my favorite...I even called my cousin that when he was born.
